Tennis elbow is a condition that can affect anyone—not just tennis players. It is a form of tendinitis affecting the common extensor tendon that connects some of the wrist muscles to the outer side of the elbow.
Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)
Tennis elbow, also called lateral epicondylitis, results from inflammation of the common extensor tendon of the elbow. It most often results from repetitive work-related duties or exercise, causing pain at the outer side of the elbow and decreased grip strength.
Most cases of tennis elbow can be treated with nonsurgical treatment. Taking a break from aggravating exercise or work activities is needed to allow the inflamed tendon to heal. Ice, medication, physical therapy, and injections can also help.
