Mallet finger develops from a tear or cut in the tendon. This commonly occurs from sports or injuries like slamming a finger in a door. It most often affects the middle finger of the dominant hand.
Treatment for mallet finger includes pain-relieving methods and wearing a finger splint to help the injured finger tendon heal. If the tendon is cut, surgery may be performed to sew the tendon back together.
