The posterolateral corner (PLC) is located on the outer side of the knee toward the back of the leg. It helps stabilize the knee and is made up of three parts: the lateral collateral ligament, or LCL, the popliteal tendon, and the popliteofibular ligament.
Multi-Ligament Knee Injuries
Surgery for a PLC tear involves using tendon grafts to reconstruct the different parts of the PLC. A surgeon makes an incision along the outer side of the knee and places a tendon graft through the femur, or thigh bone, and fibula to restore stability.
