The lunotriquetral ligament is located between the lunate and the triquetrum, two of the carpal bones of the wrist. Injury to this connecting ligament can cause the wrist to become unstable.

Injury to the lunotriquetral ligament rarely occurs in isolation and often happens with injury to other ligaments in the wrist. Falling onto an outstretched hand is one of the most common ways to injure the wrist ligaments.
A cast or splint can help stabilize the wrist to allow a lunotriquetral ligament injury to heal. For cases that cause significant wrist instability, surgery may be needed to repair the ligament or stabilize the bones together.
